Symposium

From December 4, 2025 to December 5, 2025

Saint-Martin-d'Hères - Maison de la Création et de l’Innovation (MaCI)

Immersion dans "La Nuit des rois" de William Shakespeare

International conference organized by ILCEA4 under the auspices of the French Shakespeare Society (SFS).
Project supported as part of the SFR Création call for projects.

The twists and turns of the plot, questions of gender and identity ambivalence, the relationships between the characters, their social status, their ways of speaking, as well as power dynamics and the fine line between laughter and tears, are some of the many facets that Shakespeare’s pen so subtly depicts. Whereas in the past such knowledge was primarily accessible through performance, today it is also (and perhaps above all) available through the text itself. In this conference, we therefore aim to bring these two major approaches—text and performance—into dialogue as we explore La nuit des rois.

Organizing comittee

Charlène CRUXENT, PhD, Certified Teacher (Académie de Lyon)
Chloé GIROUD, PhD Candidate (Université Grenoble Alpes), A.T.E.R. (Université Jean Monnet)
Estelle RIVIER-ARNAUD, Professor (Université Grenoble Alpes)

At the conclusion of the conference, a public performance of La nuit des rois will be presented. The play will be performed in its entirety as an immersive theatre production by the company A2R, with which stage director Léonard Matton collaborates.
